February 21, 2023 (Washington, D.C.) — Americans for a Clean Energy Grid is pleased to announce the formation of Clean Energy Grid Action (“Grid Action”), an affiliated 501(c)(4) entity that will advocate for policies to expand, modernize, and integrate the high-capacity transmission network.
A resilient and reliable transmission system is the backbone of a modern grid and a strong economy, but the United States is not planning or building transmission at the rate necessary to meet our future energy needs. Grid Action will push for federal policies that ensure our grid is effectively planned and developed in order to achieve greater security, reliability, affordability, and sustainability of electric power service in the U.S.
“Our nation has fallen behind in building the infrastructure needed to keep the lights on and ensure our clean energy future,” said Grid Action Board President James Hewett. “Clean Energy Grid Action will help expand vital advocacy efforts to support the policies needed to expand and modernize our electric grid.”
Grid Action will be overseen by a board of directors with diverse expertise in both the energy industry and the political sphere.
James Hewett manages power sector advocacy as part of Breakthrough Energy’s U.S. policy and advocacy team. His work is focused on developing engagement and advocacy strategies for the organization’s power sector priorities. Hewett was previously vice president of renewable energy at David Gardiner and Associates, where he worked on corporate renewable energy policy and advocacy strategy for foundations. While at DGA, he also served as policy director for Americans for a Clean Energy Grid.
Katie Cullen is the founder of the government affairs firm SC Partners. She is a leading advocate for renewable energy as an engine of innovation, economic development, and job creation. Her work covers a wide range of issues including offshore wind, combined heat and power, waste-to-energy, and battery storage. She was previously the vice president for the Integrated Waste Services Association and vice president of public affairs for the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
Kyle Davis is the director of U.S. federal policy at Enel North America. He provides strategic leadership to the company’s North American business development efforts, with an emphasis on policies that benefit renewable energy, energy storage, demand response, microgrids and electric vehicles. He has more than 25 years’ experience in the electricity industry and joined Enel after 13 years at Berkshire Hathaway Energy.
Jed Dearborn is senior vice president with Cassidy & Associates where he uses his blend of legal and policy experience to advance client priorities in a rapidly changing energy and natural resources policy landscape. He was previous senior counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources — where he advanced legislation on issues including transmission and electricity generation — and energy counsel to Sen. John Barrasso.
Grid Action is also seeking one or more qualified firm(s) or individuals(s) to assist with bipartisan legislative advocacy and education. You can view the RFP here. Responses are due March 1.
